Mass Expanse
by Peter Cherry
This has to be one of the most spectacular sites I have ever witnessed. Just yards away from my camera lenses the knots pass on there way to a lagoon where they spend the night during high tide. The spectacle is over in just a few minutes. I think I am lucky to be in the right place at the right time with good weather conditions.
Equipment: Canon 40d 100-400

I never cease to be amazed by the beauty and grace of a compact flock of birds. You definitely had a stroke of luck, but I’m more happy that you have the love of nature that lets you know it is a view you should share with others!

What an incredible sight – brilliant photo. It reminds me of one of MC Escher’s metamorphosis drawings.

Awesome light! I’ve been lucky enough to see this a couple of times, with swans once and snow geese once. But never quite this close!

It’s amazing that you ‘kept yourself together’ to take this shot, it’s spectacular.

We get flocks of wading birds that make your skin tingle with the change in air currents as they pass over. They do a kind of sky ballet, but even those flocks don’t compare to this.
