Kalagadi Brothers
by Prakash Bhikha
On a morning drive from Nossob camp we came across these two brothers heading for the watering hole. It was an overcast day and the light was pretty even and somewhat dull, just then the cloud cover broke and the lion got up and it was the right moment to capture this magnificient lion of the Kalagadi. A real regal/royal pose. A moment sooner and it is not in the sun, a little later and there would have been too much sun. These lions have the most magnificient black manes seen anywhere on the continent.
Equipment: Nikon D700 and Nikkor 400mm F2.8 Lens

I sell African safaris and honestly, this is one of the most beautiful pictures I have seen of this magnificent animal. Lions are now endangered and we must do all we can to protect them in the wild. If we keep going as we are in diminishing their habitat, in twenty years we won’t have any lions on this continent. Well done you!
