Enders Falls Autumn

by Andrew Stockwell

Enders State Forest, known formally as John Ostrom Enders and Harriet Whitmore Enders State Forest, was a gift to the State of Connecticut by their four children in 1970. This is one of the six waterfalls that make up Enders Falls. Some of the most photogenic falls in the the state of CT, they are particularly picturesque during Autumn, when the foliage is in full color.
Equipment: Pentax K7, SMC-DA* 16-50 f/2.8, Tripod, 2 stop ND Solid

I am a photographer originally from Red Wing, MN. Currently I am transplanted in Connecticut finishing my 13th year in the United States Navy. Currently I am stationed on a Fast Attack Submarine in Groton, CT. Most of my photos are from the New England area due to my current career that pays the bills. I take my photos using a combination of a Pentax Digital SLR, a Pentax Film SLR, and a Mamiya M645. I primarily shoot Landscapes, nature, and some architecture. Thanks for Looking, Andrew

I love this, sometimes the water effects are over done but I feel this is nicely understated whilst the colours of leaves frame it beautifully.

Great work.

Nice pic from an interesting angle. Very pretty falls and surrounding area, especially the rocks. What I don’t get is the foreground, the mass of water at the bottom (?) next to the rock. I found it very disconcerting.

I’m guessing that’s water in the foreground; For me,it throws off the otherwise beautiful scene.

Thank You all for your kind words. I did a double take this morning when I read my email, and saw this was the shot of the day. Planetlover, I am not sure what water you were refering too…there is a small basin there where the water kind of collects before going over the edge of the falls. The pool behind the falls doesn’t fall over the edge except when water level is high. Anyway Thanks Again all!

To Claire: The don’t call it earthshots.com for nothing! ;) I remember going to Enders Falls in the late 1990s. Beautiful place set back off the beaten path.

I love the composition–mirrored still water is dark but reflective, while the moving water provides light and motion. Lovely image!
