Sunrise from 14,000

by Scott Hotaling

Sunrise from just below the summit crater of Mt. Rainier in June. Cloud deck approximately a vertical mile below. The warm light was a welcomed feeling with single digit temperatures and gusting winds all night.

I like the bright Sun in the background against the snow.

Just to be clear, the white below the mountain are the clouds! They were way down low that morning.

Thanks, guys.

Wish I was there. You make me travel again. I can feel the hard slope up in the snow… step by step, the team work tied to the rope and forget about the cold because of this majestic mountain… way up above the clouds.

spectacular! I new they were clouds as there is a mountain here in Japan which has a similar feel, how awesome you could be there and experience that scene first hand! well done!

How beautiful. I have the pleasure of looking out my front door each (clear) day and see the beautiful, majestic Mt. Rainier. I only wish I could see it from your vantage point someday.

The composition — putting the climbers in the upper corner and showing the steep incline below, very clearly brings forth the perils of the sport.
A remarkable setting. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful! I love that diagonal cut splitting earth from sky in a perfectly smooth transition.

Great shot! Can it also be tagged “sunrise”, “climbing”, and “snow”? It took me a while to find it again after so many months. It’s a really compelling picture!
