Winter Gold

by Scott Hotaling

After several feet of snow fell in the North Carolina mountains, the temperatures stayed cold and winds were minimal in this secluded stream bottom. Waiting for softer light, I was finally rewarded near sunset with a golden touch to an already beautiful winter scene.

Scott nice shot. Your description is appropriate as the light makes the picture.

Jim is right–the light makes this shot different from so many winter scenes. It always amazes me that the sun can actually make the mind think it’s warm outside when it’s actually so very, very cold!
This could be right here in Grand Ledge–nice to know others are sharing our cold beauty.

What a treat to have snow in North Carolina.
Nicely balanced compostion. Makes snow look
pretty even tho I have way too much of it
in my yard. thanks!

Very beautiful! I love hiking in fresh snow. It’s so quiet, so calm and you have the trails all to yourself (sort of).
