Frozen Lake
by Orvaratli
Another glorious day shooting. The endless low angle light, the cold clear air, the frozen everything plus a lot of free time for shooting makes me feel like a kid in a candy store now.
I spent around 3 hours shooting on this part of the lake capturing the frozen forms and structures from various angles. It was pretty cold but the absence of wind made it a really good day out shooting.

You’ve perfectly captured the feeling of standing on a frozen lake with the wind whipping by. This reminds me of an ice-fishing day with my parents when I was about 12. The ice was more than 6 inches thick, but clear as glass–my mother was terrified, but I was fascinated by being able to see the fish and the weedy bottom of the lake. Is that a pressure crack stretching toward the island?
Only you could make me want to visit Iceland!

Amazing! Those snow patches and ice are fantastic!
I would move that almost straight line off the image centre and made it running from bottom left to the centre or top right.

I love the ice streaks and the crack used as lead in lines. Congratulations on your photograph of the day!

Very nice work on this one! The radiating diagonal lines created by the patches of snow play off the straight crack in the ice (?) nicely and creates a lot of tension.

Quite an incredible pattern there on the lake.
You are really lucky to be in a part of the world where there is so much beauty to behold and capture.

Love this, the patterns and textures are great,. How thick is the ice and please tell me you were on firm ground when you took it.

Isn’t the absence of wind when it’s really cold one of the most pleasant things!! I love the abstract patterns created in the foreground.

Thanks for the comments everybody. To answer the questions asked here are the answers.
Katherine Lee Strassburg: this along with other cracks all streched towards the Island.
Yegor Korzh: I also shot a composition with the crack going diognal but then the cloud “arms” where cut of on either the left of right so I went with the centered crack.
Su: The ice was about 5-10cm thick (2-4 inches) where I stood but thinner on the edges where you can see unfrosen water.
