Tiger Stripes

by Tad Bowman

This picture depicts an abstract view of Cascade Creek in the San Juan mountains of Colorado. The colors of the rock were brilliant. The black cracks in the rock along with the orange colors reminded me of tiger stripes.
Equipment: Canon EOS 1dsMII, 24-70 lens, and tripod

What wonderful colors and textures! The few streaks of watery blue add a perfect counterpoint to the jagged rock formations. Now I need to look up the minerals in that area. Fantastic shot-great potd!

Another wonderful shot Tad, at first glance I thought it was molten lava with rising wisps of steam. Apt title too.

Very interesting shot. I love the colors, the steely blue and the yellow-orange-brown spectrum are quite a sight. I hope Katherine will tell us what the minerals are.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I did forget one piece of equipment that I used for the shot. I used a standard circular polarizer. Anurag, a golden blue polarizer was not used.

Just a cursory search so far–volcanic activity very early, followed by upheaval, metamorphosis, and sedimentary deposits–all jumbled into various layers and shapes as the continents developed. The photo reminded me of the colors at Jasper Knob in the Michigan Upper Peninsula. I find geology fascinating!

The colors are fantastic, oh, I’d love to have that as a painting!
