Cold and Alone

by Marc Adamus

A couple days of backpacking afforded me a remote campsite near a frozen lake on the NW face of Jasper's (Alberta) Mount Fryatt. It was a magnificent location where I found myself dwarfed by the massive peak and hanging, rumbling glaciers on the walls above. While scouting around I noticed this winding crack along the lakeshore, all that remained visible of a small stream below. As I photographed it later that day, the setting sun made a timely appearance over the distant western peaks and added a little warmth to the frigid scene.

Magnificent! A perfectly controlled and executed image in all aspects. It’s freezing here in Oregon today, so this shot is truly fitting.

Anurag – I could not have said it any better :)
Truely an amazing shot!
It is great for all of us that you took the trouble camping in this rather unfriendly place, bringing back such a super proof of Nature’s beauty and strength, Marc – thank you!!

simply spectacular!

Yet another brilliant image. Superb eye for the small but interesting details. This small stream is one best examples I have seen of how to add a punch to a image by using leading lines.

great shot indeed. the way the viewer is introduced to the image through the crack then towards the sun is so great

Only God could create such a magnificant moment in time. How blessed you were to have been there to capture it. Bravo! Well done!

a good photo always leaves us with more questions than answers and this certainly does. Although the starkness would indicate absence of life, the possible pooling movement in the water begs for attention. Wonderful capture.

A silent tracer leads us to a magnificent scene; a beautiful combination of ice, sun & sky. Delightful potd.

Coldness in pink with lavender breath. The separation of one from it’s opposite comes together in the cold of our minds. We see unlike one another but we feel the same…

Thanks for taking this lovely photo–no way on earth I’d ever go there or be willing to get cold enough to capture such a sight. I’ll stick to the desert! Great photo, but it makes me shiver……….

A terific Shot. My favorite in this month.
Love the clouds, & reflections of the sun & sun
it’s self. A great lead to getting there with
the crack. The world has such beauty, thanks
for capturing & sharing it with us. Ontario :)
