The Stone Garden
by Justin Jew
Rarely visited and largely unknown, the Bisti Badlands of New Mexico is a perfect example of an untouched and fragile land. Out in the middle of nowhere, this 4,000 acre natural expanse offers an incredible display of multi-colored badlands, washed-out valleys, bizarre rock formations, unique hoodoos, and clay mounds. I saw absolutely nobody during our stay in this wilderness, it felt as if I had owned the place...

I'm a 16 year old student in Albuquerque, New Mexico. My father has been a professional photographer for 33 years. When I was 13 my father allowed me to use his Canon EOS-1dS.

What fantastic rock formations and colors! I’m not at all familiar with this part of New Mexico, but it definitely deserves some research. The formation in the foreground looks like a petrified caramel candy! Wonderful low vantage point brings the viewer with you into the wilderness–very well done!

Your dad must be Kim Jew. I’ve admired his work for years, even though I haven’t lived in Albuquerque for over 20 years.
Phenomenal shot — you’ve developed an amazing eye of your own!
