Lake Moraine in the Morning
by Matt Bonnes
While in Calgary for work, a friend and I made the trek out west bright and early to catch some nice morning reflections in the pristine lakes of Banff and Yoho National Parks.
Equipment: Nikon D80 + Nikon 12-24mm f/4

I have always been interested in photography, but only recently purchased a D-SLR about three years ago, and have been enjoying it ever since.

Excellent scenery ..so tranquil and peaceful! The composition and colours are lovely. The reflections provide for some wonderful symmetry!

Nice clean shot overall.

Lovely warm scene; probably a little too much foreground.

Beautiful scenery and reflections. The stones in the foreground are also reflective of the stones in the background as far as color is concerned. Well-done.

I wouldn’t worry about an excess of foreground. Without it, you would have a very conventional shot, and in order to show the reflection fully, a fragment of a rock that would be puzzling. I love the picture.

Pristine indeed! Very beautiful. To me, the rocks are inviting: I can see myself sitting on them watching the day go by.

Thanks for sharing this picture. I took my boys there about 8 years ago and absolutely love the area.

Beautiful photograph, beautiful setting. Was just there this past month and could not believe how beautiful the scenery was.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback! I took several shots from other vantage points and decided that ultimately I preferred the rocky foreground mostly because it was something different than the norm.
Renee: It is a yellow kayak! I toyed with the idea of cloning it out, but decided to leave it in, as extra color never hurt anyone

Excellent landscape and composition. It has the most beautiful colors. Wonderful where one looks at her!!! Congrats for you.

Hey great shot, I think I would have done a landscape and cut down on the sky, bringing more of the lake into play to try and get more reflection into play. I will say that since I wasn’t there I can’t say what the conditions were for light etc, and could be barking up the wrong tree. Keep up the good work.

Just lovely. The slanted sun lighting the top of the mountains, then reflected in the water is wonderful. Love the composition…the river leads the eye to the mountains.

Love those grey tones, unusual shot of that area but a great one. Congrats.
