A rare shot, and nice action of both the whale and the water.

Great catch! I love the color of the water, the splash of the waves, and the whale. I knew nothing about the Crozet Islands (“a sub-antarctic archipelago of small islands in the southern Indian Ocean.” Wikipedia). Now I do. Thanks!

Good capture of a life form that rules the seas.

About ten years back, I went up from Seattle to Friday Harbor for several days and then over to Victoria, British Columbia. This was is early June, just before the tourist season started up. Very active season for Orca and seeing them in their pods. Lots of small powered rubber rafts, with crew observing cutting engines. GREAT place and time to view the orcas in their splendor. While you are in Victoria, good to go visit Buchart Gardens http://www.butchartgardens.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1

The whale looks to have more than surfing on his mind. Very nice POTD.

P.S. It looks very much like where I live on the Pacific Ocean. We whale watch all the time. Tremendous!

The shades of blue in the waves, the tumult, the spray–all combined to make me shiver. The orca almost seems to be smiling. Wonderful shot.
