Winters First Days

by Orvaratli

Yes, summer is surely over here in Iceland. The cold northern winds have started blowing, dumping some snow on the mountains. It is only a few weeks since the summer was at its peak. Seasons really change fast near the arctic circle. On the good side this makes vegetation really colorful in both red and yellow colors. The only vegetation not effected by this is the slow growing moss. It still keeps its green color. This place has become one of my favorite ones for shooting lava. Its located 20 mins from my home near the mountains of Reykjanes. I used a 0.9 hard edge filter on the top to darken the sky and another 0.9 soft edge on the upper half of the image.

I love the snow on the mountains. Snow here in New York starts sometimes in November.

This is such a lovely picture! Wonderful colors, I can sense the cool crisp air. So many variations of shapes. The tundra seems almost impassable, not like a desert scene, but definitely with it’s challanges. Thank you for your keen eye.

Beautiful and haunting image, I have been sitting here for long long minutes my eyes reading every little detail, and always returning to those majestic, haunting mountains. Congratulations on living so close to such poignant beauty, and having the ability to reflect it so evocatively all across the world.

Beautiful…although I’m not fond of cold climates makes me want to be part of the picture. Looks like a painting indeed.

Yet another unique view into the heart of Iceland! Isn’t it amazing that the tiny alpine plants and moss in the foreground grow so abundantly on the mountain flanks that they seem to paint it with themselves? Wonderful work. I always look forward to more from you, ‘O’!
