The Icelandic Horse

by Orvaratli

The Icelandic horse is a classic subject for photographers here in Iceland. Their friendliness and curious nature makes them a really nice subject. The Icelandic horse is much smaller than their relatives in mainland Europe and elsewhere. I dont know why but I read somewhere that animals tend to grow small on isolated islands. The Icelandic horse as adapted well to the harsh environment in Iceland, specially the winter. It grows thick fur which it sheds in summer. It can stay out in severe winter storms when us humans would freeze even in modern clothing.

Change of flavour Orvaratli!?
The horses are very cute and I really like the perspective of the wide angle.

How very cute! I saw the horses with their winter coats some years back and they look even cuter. And how beautifully green Iceland is in summer!

They look like the cute little Shetland Ponies we have here in US…heart warming image.

Absolutely beautiful and inspiring. The horses look very friendly and the scenery is breathtaking and other-worldly. Right now I’m wondering why I’m not in Iceland. I’d love to visit!

They seem to have horse heads, and pony bodies. Nice change for this site & photographer, Thanks.

Wow–a green pasture scene by Orvaratli! You never cease to amaze me with your work. Sure wish I will never be able to visit Iceland, but your photos are teaching me a lot about your country. Lovely shot.

Gorgeous! I love the thick Luxuriant manes on these sweet lil horses.. they do kind of look like some ponies here in the US.
That backdrop of green with the dandelion flowers and the craggy peaks is a fabuolous contrast with the peek of mist and mountain in the distance.
