I wonder whether he has bug breath? Red-Winged Blackbirds are true harbingers of spring, and return so early that nights are still freezing and some snow on the ground. Perhaps now some of you will understand what makes us ‘birders’ tick! Nothing like dawn birding to make you truly appreciate nature. This is a great shot–thanks for sharing it!

The breath makes the shot unique. However, I also love the way the bird is perfectly back-lit with just enough fill light to bring out detail. Great Shot!

Funny how “seeing” the breath makes us aware of life and of the great “exchange” as we and billions of other beasties take in and exhale the same air.
