September 12th, 2009 at 3:10 pmI love this photo’s theme and vibrant colors! Most pictures I’ve seen of elephants are of the animals serving people or being abused by people. This one is really sweet and the elephant seems to be having a great time. What exactly is a mahout? Someone in charge of caring for them? Someone who owns them?

September 12th, 2009 at 3:31 pmNicely captured shot. But bare in mind that there are grave concerns from many charities regarding just how these elephants are treated in this part of the world. In most cases they are there to provide nothing more than an income for the owners – merely a tool of the trade and are treated a such. A great many die every year through mistreatment. I expect this early morning bath was nothing more than another opportunity to earn tourist dollars and a lot les to do with love for the animal.
