Morning Bath
by Pavithra Meera Ramasubramanian
Elephants at Aanakotta, Guruvayur. This one was getting its daily morning bath. The elephant was 10 years old and seemed to be enjoying this part of the day.

Elephants are so special, and thanks for this special picture of something most of us would never see in person!

Beautiful picture and so are the colors Pavithra.

The particular pattern of hair on the elephant’s head and the look of the forehead almost makes him appear like a balding “wise old man”

I love this photo’s theme and vibrant colors! Most pictures I’ve seen of elephants are of the animals serving people or being abused by people. This one is really sweet and the elephant seems to be having a great time. What exactly is a mahout? Someone in charge of caring for them? Someone who owns them?

Both the boy & elephant seem to enjoy the bath; & I enjoyed the picture, thank you.

Nicely captured shot. But bare in mind that there are grave concerns from many charities regarding just how these elephants are treated in this part of the world. In most cases they are there to provide nothing more than an income for the owners – merely a tool of the trade and are treated a such. A great many die every year through mistreatment. I expect this early morning bath was nothing more than another opportunity to earn tourist dollars and a lot les to do with love for the animal.

For me it seems to be a very special morning between the Elephant and the Mahout together in the green water.

Dear Pavithra! fantastic capture…being from around that area, I definitely understand the special bonding these remarkable creatures share with their care takers (mahouts) and the way they adpat themselves to life around humans…
This certainly desrved to be earth shot of the day!
We would love to see more pictures like these from you

Well thank you sparts, for disturbing this peaceful scene. What about Ringling Bros????
Meera, I love this endearing capture!
..maybe it is for earning money from tourists…at least it’s not earning money through abuse or neglect…Americans pay to watch the trainers in the circus whip them into submission…and people think that is ok???
Great capture of a beautiful ritual!!!
Renee
Still a cute shot, looks fun!!
