Great Sand Dunes

The image above is from Great Sand Dunes National Park. Great Sand Dunes boasts the title of tallest dunes in the continental United States. We climbed almost 600 feet at an elevation of 8,600 feet to reach the dune crest for sunset. As you can see, the monsoon was in full effect providing some stunning light and cloud conditions.

Very beautiful, indeed. Great reward for your climbing efforts! Pauline, there are some smaller dunes on the Outer Banks region of North Carolina, where the Wright brothers did their flying feats.

What bodacious clouds! The contrasting textures, colors, and shapes are real eye candy. We have dunes here in Michigan also–I climbed Sleeping Bear Dune the year I turned 50–and I only stopped a few times on the way up–just to take photos…

the great sand dunes are in colorado. there are dunes in multiple states (calif., colorado, utah, idaho).

Very nice contrasting image. I would have liked a little brighter image though. There seems to be parts too dark over the whole image.
