Emergence
by Wes Watkins
After the sun had set, and I was headed back into Siem Reap (Angkor Wat, Cambodia), I paused in the side chamber of the great temple to collect my thoughts. Out of the darkness emerged this saffron clad monk, who silently approached me.

I don’t see a ‘ruins’. I see a remarkably aged, totally peaceful place and a dedicated gate-keeper. Wonderful photo of a place I’ll never see personally. Thanks for taking me there!

so peaceful
! really good shot, the contrast of the monk color and the ruins is great.

Wonderful capture. The contrast between the blue of the shadows and the orange robe is just fantastic.

this picture really takes me back to Siem Reap, one the most fascinating places i’ve ever visited. thank you. the tranquility portrayed seems almost permeable, like another period in time where life moved at a totally different pace. beautiful!!!

The bright orange against the almost monochrome background looks like a special effect but I guess its genuine.

Wonderful composition. At first I thought it was selective coloring. Well-spotted.

The bright garment brings attention to that beautiful temple.

The color of the monk clothes contrast with the environment, and looks very interesting

I was standing in the exact same spot only three weeks ago! Except there were 4 young “trainee” monks (perhaps 5/6 years old) sitting playing exactly where this monk is standing. We visited at sunrise and managed to take some awesome shots of the sun emerging from behind Angkor Wat.
Its a magical place and well worth a couple of days visit.
Great shot
