Mike, Thanks for the Star Trek comparison!  My son said The Original Series episode is entitled &quot;City on the Edge of Forever,&quot; and the portal is called &quot;The Guardian of Forever.&quot;  Through &quot;The Guardian,&quot; they go back in time to Earth in the 1930s.  Great episode!
