Hassan II Mosque
by Steven Greaves
The Hassan II Mosque, located in Casablanca, is the largest mosque in Morocco and the third largest mosque in the world after the Masjid al-Haram of Mecca and the Al-Masjid al-Nabawi in Medina. It stands on a promontory looking out to the Atlantic Ocean and can accommodate 25,000 worshippers; 80,000 additional worshippers can be accommodated in the mosque’s adjoining grounds. Seen here is the mosque’s minaret which is the world’s tallest at 210m.

Very beautiful mosque. I like the framing but I’m not sure about the man’s shoe being so prominent in the foreground. However, if I look at the minaret long enough and then focus on the man’s robe and how it blends in with the arch, the shoe dissapears. The scene has a spiritual tone to it, with the man’s gaze turned toward the tower.
