Torres Del Paine Condor

by Dale Mitchell

Whilst on an excursion in the Torres Del Paine National park, Chile. My wife and I were walking at the bottom of these mountains and saw this Condor flying in his domain. I couldn't help but capture this beautiful image, which will always be in my mind!!
Equipment: Nikon d300, sigma 50-500mm

I am interested in photography and taking photos of the environment which surrounds us. I have been interested in photography for about 4 years now but over the last 2 I have started to get into it with a bit more depth.

This photo speaks volumes! The Andean Condor almost went extinct, and the captive breeding program that saved it was later used to also save the California Condor from the brink. This view against the sunbeams and mountain peaks belies the ten foot wingspan, but reminds us that without our help, it is a bird that could sail off into oblivion. I too, will always remember seeing my first California Condor (1976)–they are amazing birds! Thanks for this evocative potd.

Nice shot, specially notable is the aparent paradox of seeing the cloud below and the bird above. Also noteworthy is the heavy sky with those crepuscular beams.

“They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings as eagles.” Isaiah 40:31 How awesome you portray that Scripture. Outstanding job, incredible scene and wonderful eye. Keep up the terrific work. You are annointed.

I quit. (Not really, there’s a lot of beauty to go around) But this shot stands out from among the standouts. Astonishing photo and setting.

Ditto to all the comments. Best photo in a long while! I love seeing these birds in their natural habitat rather than cages in a zoo. Great job, señor Mitchell!
