Palouse Falls
by Stephen Oachs
This amazing waterfall is extremely remote, located in the middle of Eastern Washington State. This time of year the flow is very strong and with a longer exposure I was able to capture the swirl of the water below.
Equipment: Canon 1D Mark III

Wow. Spectacular shot. The clouds, water, angle of the sun/shadows, all seem just perfect. Great photo for Earth Day.

I so much enjoyed your earlier shot of this site. Nevertheless you returned and came up an awsome shot. You sure do good work. I am im impressed. It is a pleasure to have you share your efforts.

Nice blues greens and browns – the earthy landscape tones complement each other very well. The blurring of the water in water falls is always a treat. Well done.

Looks like the last shot of this site was by Kevin McNeal (Jan 28, 2008). Both pictures share common elements (long shutter speed and swirl), but the light, season, and scale is different in both, making for two incredible photos, by two extraordinary photographers.

I like the intense spring colors. Even the gravy brown of the falls and pool below looks rich and alive.

OOps, date correction on my above comment. It was Jan 28, 2009. (I still haven’t gotten used to the year change.)

Yes the composition of both the images is very similar. Only the lighting is different.

Sometimes we do get similar subjects but often the treatment is different.

I simply love it ! Good colors, good lights. And as the others, it immediatly reminded me the other photo, as Kirk Jordan said

The water seems to be some precious metal, like silver, or something else (I’m not a expert

Thanks for sharing this awesome spectacle Stephen,
I presume you used some ND filters to get the long exposure?

Beautiful photograph. Apparently a kayaker ran that waterfall successfully a couple weeks ago. You must have just missed one another. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/outdoors/2009139679_webkayaker28.html
