Brahman Cattle
by Paula Heelan
Grass fed Brahman cattle grazing near a station homestead in central Queensland, Australia

I'm a freelance journalist and live on a cattle station in central Queensland. I write and take photos for magazines and newspapers - mostly rural features and news stories. Living in a remote area, I needed to be able to provide photos with my stories - photography has grown to be my favourite hobby.

I like the mellow light and repetition of forms, but there is just something about a tag in the ear that feels like a telepheone wire in front of a sunset.

I didn’t realize that these creatures were so subtly colored.

Nice capture, with the second cow in the background and oof!! Also, nice lighting.

Nice chromatic combination and unusual looking cows (for us who don’t live down under).

I’m new to this site and am over whelmed by it’s quality. This image however I can’t resist a comment. The softness of the colors, the depth of field. The facial expression with the grass in mouth. I wish I took this shot

The cattle moved off quickly as I approached, so this was the best shot I could manage – missing the lovely, soft eyes. If you Google Brahman cattle you should find plenty of Brahman profiles.
They are tagged, importantly, for traceability worldwide.

They look so completely different than the cattle here, with the exception of the nose, maybe. Wow, never noticed that hump on the back. The little babies are being born here, and are so adorable as they frolic and play. Wish I had a decent camera …..

Interesting nice shot. especially with the cow in the background unfocused.

I love the shot, but disagree with Malta because I would have preferred a little more depth of field. Perhaps the light did not permit it.

I didn’t know they have so many colors on them.
