A boat race on River Chitra was held at Narail to mark the 84th birth anniversary of S. M. Sultan (1923-1994) a renowned painter. He was born on 10 August 1923 at Masimdia, a village in Narail, Bangladesh. August 12 2008

I am Nazrul Islam. I was born in Khulna, Bangladesh. I started my photography career as a freelancer in 1994. Now, I am working as a photojournalist with experience in portraits, corporate portfolios, photojournalism and documentary photography. As a photographer, my main interests lie in people, society, nature and environment such as portraits, culture, landscapes, sports, agriculture, topics with historical significance and other different categories. In 2006,I was awarded as honourable mrntion on SAARC Charter Day, organised by the SAARC's Agricultural Information Center campus in Bangladesh. I have also been awarded honourable mention for my photographs on the historical sites of Bangladesh in a photography competition in 2007, organised by Maati Imagine Bangladesh.

This captures the high energy of the participants by using panning, low point of view, and high enough shutter speed to catch the water droplets in mid-air. Not the type of shot I would ever want to take, but it is very impressive! Congratulations on the potd!

Wow! How big is that boat? There seems to be a lot of Oarsmen manning the boat, aside from the ? 2 Coxswains!

Yes, what an action shot! The shirts, the haircuts, the black and white – truly gives us a timeless feeling. Action without time … hmmm.
