Since retiring I have taken up nature photography. My main interest is birds but I do like to photograph flowers, animals and insects with an occasional landscape. My four year old granddaughter also gets a fair bit of photographic and other attention.

the bird is very pretty! it looks kind of animated! did you make it look that way for a reason? or is it real what you took?

  2. Katherine Lee Strassburg Says:

Very nice shot of this little bird. I especially like the frail weedy perch. You caught him in a great pose–beak agape and spikey feathers, really showing his personality. Nice POTD.

  3. Anurag Anurag Says:

Great shot – …casting her love song in all that empty space around her.

  4. Malta Photography Malta Photography Says:

Nice shot indeed. Very good closeup and the background blur is just great.

  5. Pauline Jones Pauline Jones Says:

Nice shot but where was it taken and what is it? The bird looks a bit like a lark but I’m not sure.

  6. Su Su Says:

    Nice shot

  7. Mandy Kilpatrick Mandy Kilpatrick Says:

Wow – are you sure this is a photo? It really looks like a detailed drawing. The background color contrasts nicely with the bird and the vivid detail. The little branches highlight the small size of the bird and its semming fragility. Excellent POTD !!!

  8. planet lover Says:

Cute as a button! Nice POTD as bird songs are already filling the air here in Maryland.

  9. Wanda Krack Wanda Krack Says:

What a lucky, wonderful shot. Nice background, dof, sharpness and colors!

  10. Renee Renee Says:

Birds are always cute no matter how you capture them, well done! :)

  11. Marie Dunphy Harding Says:

This whole scene looks so fragile, as if it should be contained in a glass case. Nice work!

  12. Cynthus Says:

This is exquisite! At first glance, without my glasses, I was sure it was a Japanese brush painting. The composition and color are so very artistic. Great photo! Could I buy a print from you to add to my collection of bird art?

  13. James and Kelly Stone Says:

Wonderful shot with excellent choice of a shallow depth of field. Sharpness and detail are amazing. Congratulations.

Love the background, and it does look like it is singing with all it has!

  15. SergioLuis Silva Says:

Great moment with nice detail and colors. Excelent dof and a smooth bookeh!!

  16. Katherine Lee Strassburg Says:

Pauline, this is a Savannah Sparrow. When I first started birding, I was amazed at the variety in the sparrow family. I’m sure most of us wish we could have details on the photos–specific names of birds or animals, exact locations, sunrise or sunset, etc.

  17. Sue Gagnon Says:

A BEAUTIFUL shot of a beautiful bird just doing her thing. Great Job, great shot, great bird, I LOVE it!!

I love the splash of yellow on the bird’s head and overall brown tones – truly early spring!
