That is definately an awesome shot. I tip my hat to you for such a great shot. Just to let you know it look like a juvenile Cooper’s Hawk.

Mike, you’ve captured a very nice portrait of a juvenile Cooper’s Hawk. Your website has other special bird photos, but all un-named. You must live in great birding territory–I hope you have a field guide so you can provide names for future POTD’s! Congratulations on a budding career!!!!

Michael you’ve done a wonderful job on so many levels. The clarity of the hawk itself is really striking; it’s body held like that and taken at that angle gives the hawk a sort of nobility. As well, the blurred background seems to give the picture a whole other dimension. That blur of branches right behind the hawk’s torso give the impression of extended breast feathers, it takes a second look to realise what it is. Congrats on a wonderful photo.

Michael, you must be very proud. Let’s all be thrilled you, as a 13 year old boy, have had the chance to see, photograph and live with this impressive bird of prey. He is a survivor, as long as we, the humans, leave him to photography and observation. Very good catch, Micheal!

Indeed WOW. You have a great eye. Keep it up and well done.

I love the way the branch trails across the shot and he is perched central. Also the other branches create a maze.

He looks in command up there :)
