Even in the lair of heart-rending deprivation, people exude dignity. Notice how the gaze of the middle woman appears to scrutinize the on-looker.. . it is conscience-affecting.

What a thousand words this photo is worth. It tells a great story and makes me count my blessings for all I have. Thank you for sharing this image of the way life is for some. Congratulations on this POTD!

Yes I echo James and Kelly Stone’s thought of counting our blessings and vowing never to commit evil. To be kind and humble.
On the technical level you did a great job of capturing the sombre mood. I can see some halos around the figures of the ladies which may possibly be due to dodging which you may have done in order to open up the shadows.
Chamika
Wonderful composition. Congrts on a superb POTD!

Technically this is a good picture but it goes way beyond that; it tells a poignant story and makes you think; well done.

Very nice Shot indeed. I like the sharpness of the image I could almost sense the ladies moving. and capturing the fire like that. WOW.

O beauty you are everywhere, you are in a child’s face and a mother’s eye and you are in the wisdom of a lifetime spent gathering wood and stoking fire, watching its flames guarding its power. Beauty you are in the strength of a woman’s body, and the cords of friendships she builds and the whispers that one day she will leave behind. Bless you Saikat for taking such a glorious image

I am struck by their barefeet – I wonder how cold it was. That little pile of sticks wouldn’t last very long. The women are so tiny, I wish they could have warmer clothes, like something covering their legs and arms. A photo that really does make you think, I agree. I like the composition of the three women. They look very wise – like 3 sages. Congratulations!

Very nice shot. Though I have seen similar scenes, I have never thought of taking one like this. This really captures the moment. Thanks for sharing.

For a moment the light made the women look as if they were made of cast pewter. And to Sriama Raja – It strikes me how many things we see routinley that are yet hard to capture .. or overlooked BECAUSE we have seen them.

Excellent photo! I wonder if there’s any special significance to the women’s all wearing bracelets, like markings of “clan” or “caste”.

Amazing colors, textures and life! What a rich shot-wonderful job.

There are so many colors in this shot the bracelets for sure stand out for one and yes the feet also for being so cold. Excellent!

This is like a scene from a Luis Mall documentary motion picture. Authentic and poignant.

It reminds me of the smell of fires on cold winter mornings in Varanasi. It can get soooo cold. Thanks for taking me back

Great shot, great composition, great work. Another reminder of another place in the world that suffers while we waste and whine and complain about the mundane. We must use more recall and acknowledge the realities of this very hard existence we may all be more aware of as economic woes continue, eventually affecting us all. Great, compelling photograph.
