Snow Castle

by Will Burrard-Lucas

On 2nd Feb 2009, London had the worst snow in 18 years. I popped out during my lunch break to take some photos along the river. This is a snow sculpture of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament!

That you can pop out at lunch and see this scene, biggest snow fall or not. . . I am so envious.
Great shot made me smile !

Very unique and interesting. Looks as though you had fun composing this shot. I’ve heard of snowmen and snow angels, but this is the first I have seen a snow architecture sculpture. :) Great job. Congratulations.

Will and Mathew, You guys are getting better and better and better. What a great rhythm between the real and the replica. Perfect juxtaposition. The snow fall is the icing on the cake. …..Hey! who made the sculpture!! :-)

very clever and topical! Are you going to do the millenium wheel next? Congrats on making us smile.

There is such a magical quality to the whole scene, especially with the snow falling. It should be the beginning of a “Tim Burton like” movie, where we are taken to another world. It feels like a glimpse into another world! Congratulations on your POTD !!

A photo that could inspire a soundtrack full of magical, musical compositions ….. hmmmmm … sorry to post twice but this photo is going to stay with me.

Nice shot. it does transmit a sensation of cold and winter and the feeling of London is really there. But there is something pushing me off this shot maybe its because its dark. Having a better look is looks as if it were an old photo from the past.

So far “The best composition” I have seen here.
Congrats !!

Cool picture, good idea. We even have snow here in Ireland, the first time in out area that it has actually lain on the ground in 18 years. If it lasts I will be out with my camera soon.

10/10 for imagination. What a great fun shot. A real reminder that I must brave the cold and the slippery slopes of rural England to get some images of this rare substance we call snow. Especially rare here on the Isle of Wight.

Snow can really change the entire look of a scene.
Good thinking!

I don’t usually turn to Earthshots for a laugh, but this one has me grinning deep inside. It looks like your imagination carries way beyond the framing.

Wonder who made that wonderful snow castle! It really looks like the Big Ben. Graet choice going for b&w as well and congratulations on your POTD, Will!

Don’t you feel powerful to know that you’ve set the whole world to smiling? Snow can really be beautiful when you don’t have to shovel it or scrape it off your car! Very nice shot……..very nice sculpture.

This is SUCH a wonderful photograph in SO MANY ways. First of all, it is a B&W, and I love those anyway. You couple that with the fact that London just does NOT regularly get this weather life, like me for instance, in New England, who is buried in s now even as I type, coupled also with the incomparable vista of the London skyline, and you are left with this perfect B&W. Wonderful.

It looks as good as the buildings in the background.
