Mount Rundle Sunrise

by Chip Phillips

I shot this image at sunrise over the Vermillion Lakes just outside of Banff, in Alberta Canada. Mount Rundle is one of my favorite mountains in the area, and I wanted to create an image during winter that would really show it off.
Equipment: Canon 5D, Canon 16-35 f2.8L II, polarizer, 3 stop soft gnd

I knew exactly who took this when I saw it, congrats Chip! Saw this first on Flickr and was as impressed with it this time as when I first saw it.

You really should submit this to http://www.Merzeta.com I get it would do well there too!

great shot! I spent many days in Banff over the years, and still not seen such a great sunrise view.
perfect, from an excellent point on the lake.

Perfect colors and fantastic composition. The unusual ice formation looks like a rocky beach-front leading the viewer across the lake and up the mountain into the sky. Very, very nice.

I never seen a sky like that before. Nice reflections also.

Awesome shot Chip! I love it. Great composition and placement and I totally feel as though I am standing right where you did when you captured this. You were able to brilliantly capture all the dynamics from this scene, like it were the coolest of chord changes you’ve heard lately……….. Anil.

AMAZING great shot however the colours in the sky seem overdone a little.

This image is truly gorgeous and inspirational. The colors are bright and vivid – love the rays of light coming from behind the mountain. It reminds me of place here in Montana in the Bitterroot Valley where I lived called Lake Como (named after the Italian lake). This shots highlights everything perfectly, the water, the mountain, and the light. Congratulations on you POTD!!

Stunning. Sunsets and sunrises are my favourite things in life, and you seem to have a gift for capturing them, looking through your website. So is this why the lakes are called Vermillion? It would make sense. Happy travels Chip.
