Leap of Faith

by Reed Goodwin-Johansson

After the introduction of Lake Trout into the Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout's ecosystem, the number of cutthroats began to diminish greatly. They used to crowd the Yellowstone River as they migrated upstream to their small stream breeding grounds, but now this sight is much harder to come by.
Equipment: Canon 20D and 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L

This is a very cool photo, striking and yet simple. Isn’t Yellowstone just one of the best places on Earth.

Whoever thought I’d be so impressed by a fish picture? This is very well done. The timing was perfect to let us see and identify the fish, while it makes the water look like sculpted crystal. Good luck on your studies. Nature and wildlife photography will serve you well to reduce stress from an aerospace career!

Really nice timing. I like the position of the fish in the frame and the curve of the tail. Also good is the fact that the long axis of the fish is aligned with the lines of flow of the water. I would have lightened the body of the fish a bit more, in photoshop, to bring out the orange which would go well with the blue-cyan of the water.
Great Shot.

Great shot of a great moment! The fish is so small compared to the challenge in front of it. I will use this photo as an inspiration on days when I think life is difficult :)

Stunning photograph.

Very well captured. You made such a fast paced motion seem still for a moment in time. Great detail on this fish with the movement of water looking so rapid. Congratulations.
