Calm Ocean

by Orvaratli

The freezing cold during the last couple of weeks has frozen all lakes and ponds and often covers them with snow as well. The ocean is the only thing offering reflections now. After driving around in the moonlight night shooting some Aurora, I last visited Straumur YET again. It never fails to deliver, there is always a different angle or light each time. My canon EOS 30D camera settings: Aperture: f4.5 Shutter speed: 10 sec ISO: 400 Lens: Canon EF-S 10-22mm @ 15mm

Turn the Aurora 180 degrees and you have a figure in a hooded robe.

This is a very beautiful photo. I love the composition and colors. The way the aurora dwarfs the house really shows the size of everything in the photo related to each other. Sometimes we can see the Aurora in the distance beyond mountains. There is a magical quality to it captured well in this photo. Congrats on your POTD!!

Having seen them once up close and personal, photographs of the lights never cease to amaze me. I particularly like how the terminal points of the lights, though different, seem to shar the same point of origin… as if they could slide under the rocks… wonderful, thanks for sharing

What a sense of distances dimensions and layers. Stars at infinity the aurora in the inosphere the clouds in the atmosphere, the terrestrial hut and then the water.
