Since retiring I have taken up nature photography. My main interest is birds but I do like to photograph flowers, animals and insects with an occasional landscape. My four year old granddaughter also gets a fair bit of photographic and other attention.

Exquisite detail and exquisitely framed as well. Does justice to the natural beauty of the Cedar Waxwing, several hundred of which have been swarming my Persimmon tree and Cotoneaster this week. You’ve given me a better view than my binocs have provided! Thanks!

Really an excellent shot, good color scheme. I believe you are also using flash or there is some other secondry light source.
You have chosen a wonderful hobby for retirement. Though I presume getting into odd postures to achieve dramatic and unusual perspectives must be a little more taxing.

One of the most beautiful photos I have ever seen on EarthShots.
Great work.

What a wonderful shot, is that a waxwing of some sort? Congrats on potd.

Now that is a snatch. Very nice shot indeed it has character. I would have saturated the colors and maybe reduced the exposure but anything else is perfect.

I love the minimalist approach and washed colors, it looks like a watercolor painting came to life. The arrangement, composition, framing are perfect. The photgraphic equivalent of a haiku – sometimes less is more.
Congratulations on your POTD !!!

I Really am enjoying this! Thank you for sharing it. Feels like I am there…

This is a nice shot but you don’t say what bird this is or where in the world the shot was taken. I like the composition of the colors but is the bird’s eye in sharp focus?

Very nice shot of a Bohemian Waxwing doing what it does best before doing what it does worst. The rufous undertail coverts aid in the identification, as on a Cedar Waxwing they would be white. In adult plumage, their feathers are so fine and smooth as to appear air-brushed. They are amazingly beautiful, but they travel in flocks, devouring berries and depositing red/purple plops that my sister hates finding on her little white car!

Exquisite.

Reminds me of a turn of the century (1900) naturalist print. Mr. Audubon would be proud. The simplicity also reminds me of an oriental watercolor.

Beautiful photo, bird and berries – nature at its best! Thanks to Katherine for the info on the
Bohemian Waxwing!

The waxwing looks almost like a painting with the berries, so nicely done. Great shot! Yes, it does look like an Audubon print. I this case, reality beats the print.

This is an excellent shot. It looks so much like a painting. Perfect exposure, great composition, a job very well done. Congratulations.

The colors are amazing in this shot and the composition couldn’t be any more perfect.
