I like the image and your title. Was this the moon or the sun–and where was it taken? It reminds me of a December bird walk in the full moon–temperature was about 10f, but it was like mid-day and breath-taking. Thanks for bringing back the memory. Love!

This is an excellent shot. The contrast of the “tree shadow” against the white snow makes for a beautiful composition. Great winter scene. Congratulations.

Beautiful contrast and framing. Love the shapes the shadows make against the snow. Thanks for the much-needed coolness amid the 45C heat!!

Juxtaposition of the two shadows makes the viewer stay with the image just that bit longer.

Creative shot that stands out.

Nicely composed but a little under exposed. These conditions are very hard to get right as there is glare coming from everywhere. If I am using automatic exposure I usually focus on the upper foreground and push the shutter half way down, then shift the camera to the position I want and take the shot. This might have worked in this case but I’m not sure as you want the trees to be in silhouette but in this case, to me at least, the snow appears too dark.

Composition is excellent, but as mentioned above, slight underexposure due to the sun making the choice. This can be adjusted in PS if you shot raw, so all is not lost. I tend to expose for the highlights and always shoot +1/3 with my 5d and probably would have bracketed this shot by up to two stops. That out of the way, I think conversion to B/W was the right choice for this shot and you have done a good job with that. Asthetically, the shot is very pleasing indeed.

A very simplistic setting whuch is at the same time so precise. The way the sun sparkles from exactly behind the tree. The particular landing of the shadows accross the fallen snow. And there is a special crispness an clarity using black and white here. An excellent shot which conveys the concept less is more, and focuses on the beauty of the trees in their environment. Thank you and congratulations on your POTD!!

Very nice shot. Simple and neat. The lighting is balanced, where the upper part is a little bit darkish but it is acceptable as it gives the impression of light further down.

True art photography!!!! Simplistically elegant, lovely lines throughout the image that lead my eye around the entire image. Great detail and DOF all the way to the FG, to see even the sparkling snowflakes there!

A 10+ here!!!!!

See, the proof is in the pudding with the B&W’s. I LOVE the B&W’s, and I equally love this photograph.
