River Buriganga

by M. Miran Hossain

These boats wait for passengers from early in the morning on the bank of the river Buriganga. This river is an indispensable part of their life.

An interesting photo from a unique perspective. The water is calm, but there is a tenseness in the way the boats wait that indicates they are ready to move at a moment’s notice–that like a school of fish, they could dart in unison and disappear from view. Great color…..not our usual view of boats at a wharf.

This is a very very nice composition. I suppose you are standing on a bridge? Not including the horizon has made the shot really strong. Great example of repetition of form to achieve simplification.

I wonder how the water is so blue. Generally the waters of Ganges and Bhramputra are loaded with silt. Is is because of the effects of high Tide coupled with dry season?

An interesting picture but you have cut off the boats on the right and given us a lot of negative space. Nevertheless I love pictures of ways of life that we in the west don’t often see so please keep them coming.

excellent capture, Miran! i am familiar with this vantage point, and i have stood over this bride many a time shooting the boats ply the river back and forth. given the shoreline and the busyness of the river, i understand the difficulty of creating a good composition. my hat’s off to you on coming up with an interesting way of showing the boats without all the other distractions. i do think your should tone down the saturation. the toxic water of the buriganga is iridescent to be sure, but your color treatment makes it look psychedelic.

Very nice shot indeed, I like the way the boats introduce the viewer to the whole image. the fact that they are in that kind of curve makes the image a lot more interesting. well done.

Sincerely I don’t understand the charm of this image. It almost looks like a cropping mistake.

I think this is a wonderful shot. I love the
colors and I LIKE the use of negative or open
space. A beautiful photo that shows that people across the world live differently than we do.

A fascinating shot!
The overhead point of view, the positions of the boats, and the photo “cropping” create a very artistic composition.
Also, I enjoy the educational value of various cultures and locations around the world.

Interesting subject matter and perspective. The vantage point makes the shot unique, coupled with the subject matter. Very, very nice color captured in that water.
