Burst Of Hope

by Kevin McNeal

This is an image from this past fall. I really like this state park and trying to find the best combination of light and color are always fun here. Silver Falls SP is one of the best state parks for waterfalls in North America. I wanted to get as close an low to the water as I could to include the distant mist and sunrays.
Equipment: Nikon D2

Lovely photo with lovely title. The golden rays of autumn may mean the end of summer, but they also show a hint of new life to come.

You certainly accomplished presenting what a beautiful park Silver Falls is and the beauty it holds. This is an excellent and technically perfect image!!! The DOF, the soft water fall, the color, exposure…..the list goes on!! Great job and congratulations!!

Congratulations!! A beautiful image.

This works on so many levels. Color, mood, real beauty. I am most curious about the shape of the falls themselves. It seems that it is flowing into a “ditch” from the side, rather than the “end”. Most unusual.

Great shot Kevin.
However, I feel the bright foreground mound in the lower left corner is carrying too much visual weight and is distracting the eye from the falls. Though this may not be an issue for lesser photographers, considering your high caliber I’d like to know your views on this. :-)

…oops, I’ve got the sides wrong :-( I mean “the right lower corner”

I like the way you have brought our ears down to the water, almost like we can hear it. Very nice with the fog.

Nice autumn shot.More of the stream would have been nice but well exposed all the same.

This would be a good picture without the ray of sunshine but it is that which makes it special.

Another awesome image! Nice job with the colors, water flowing and ethereal feeling that is evoked here! Wish I was shooting with you this time. Cheers, John

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions.
Anurag,
I understand what you are saying about the the brighter spots but in this case the whole image has a high key soft focus feeling to it and thus I choose to continue with the lower contrast and kept the image slightly on the brighter side of tones.
Thanks for the suggestion as do understand what you are getting at.
Thanks Kevin McNeal

This is a very good shot indeed both in color and composition. I like the warm colors and also the long shutter effect. great job indeed.

What a beautiful composition!! The river and fallen leaves are lovely, but for me the highlight and focal point is the sunshine and the way everything glows underneath the rays of light.

Well, Kevin, you did just that, you captured those aspects of the scene adeptly, and quite beautifully. Lovely was the word that immediately came to mind. Nicely done!

The trees in the back look nice with the sun coming through them.
