A Moment Frozen In Time

by Philippe Sainte-Laudy

A very cold day but perfect for the picture! Nature was still ...
Equipment: Nikon D300 with 10/20 mm

The beauty of nature is all around us at all times, but there are brief moments when a combination of elements present themselves in a truly spectacular way. Anybody who is fortunate enough to witnesses one of these events will look back fondly upon the memory. And they are even more fortunate if they happen to have a camera ready to record the event. In order to be in the right place at the right time, it is necessary to understand the complex interactions between light, weather, landscape, the tides, plants, and animals. And it is important to have a deep respect for this planet and its inhabitants. I hope that photography can bring people closer to nature and encourage them to preserve it for future generations.

This could have been taken here in Grand Ledge, Michigan, this morning! I even missed a few minutes of the Inagural TV coverage to go out and take pictures, while diamonds slowly drifted down from the trees. It was a perfectly beautiful day, but one best admired from indoors! Thank you for staying out longer than I did–I admire your fortitude and your photographic expertise!

This is an awesome image!!! Great wintery scene. I miss winter, live in California, so this is refreshing to see winter still exists…somewhere :-)
Great job and most excellent photo. Love the reflection!!

Selective highlighting of the tree branches and the boats gives a peculiar glowing, self luminiscent, omnidirectional quality to the light, giving a very pleasing effect. (ala Van Gough’s Sunflowers! :-) )

Excellent winter shot with such an artistic reflection. The blue colour effect is very classic.

This is a beautiful picture and the website is mind blowing; it shows the rest of us how it should be done. I particularly like Chambord Dream and Pied le Geant.

A moment frozen in time, but to me it is the start of a story. I love the glow of light in the back of the picture.

What makes this photo so special to me is the stillness of the water and the absolute clarity of reflection. The trees, plants, fences – everything where I live is covered with frost like that. But the water – I have never seen that before. Congratulations!!
