Visions in Pink

by Kirsten Frost

A solitary Greater Flamingo poses in the mornings first light. Photographed in the Strandfontein Water Works, not too far from my home in Cape Town, South Africa.
Equipment: Canon EOS 1D Mark II and Canon 400mm f/5.6

What an exceptional shot! The muted background really centers the viewer’s attention on the bird, and the burning color of the sky adds a nice surreal touch. The sky and the water balance nicely, as do the mountains and flamingo. Set tha pimp skillet on tha fire!!!!

Very unusual. Because only the actual bird is in focus, it makes the entire setting very ethereal. The title is perfect and I like the effect. A very nice potd.

Slightly more focus of the background would give more balance and have allowed the unique colours of the sunrise to be more present in this lovely composition.

Color saturation is good, but the bird is in too much of a corner for my liking. Some sky could have been cropped. These are of course just my views guided by my tastes. :-)

Hello, I like this one very much. The focus on the bird and the reflection are great, mountain far distant and colors too.

Congratulations…

Fantastic shot, really graphic and painting like, especially the background so perfectly out of focus. Great job. This is what photography should be about.

Pretty, but I, too, am caught up in the lack of background focus. I see this is certainly up to individual preferences, however, as Anurag has already stated. :) The pink overall hue you have captured with perfect focus on the bird is very nice.

Nice shot but I am doubting that there is too much blur which i think has been created through Photoshop. The idea is great but there is still that surreal thing of too much blur.

Composition and timing are great, but I have to agree with others that I do not like the shallow DOF.
