Nice shot, lots of good chances for that around here lately!

Very lovely. Blue cold and blurred reflections in the slightly frozen water really set the tone, but what the viewer can’t possibly share in is the soft quiet hushhhhhhh of a scene like this. Congrats on potd.

Cool……
I would have eliminated the few specks of orange-brown visible on the trees by a selective HSB layer.

Makes me glad to be by a roaring fire! Loved your other scenes of the winter on your website.

Wonderful winter scene with lots of atmosphere. We had one last week but this time, my eye is drawn to the branch poking from the water, the sharp contrast between the snow and the dark bark, then drawn upwards by the vertical reflection of the background trees on the water. Great stuff.

Nice winter scene but not memorable, no wow factor.

great mood great shot, nice balance of subjects. The reflection on the river is just great.

This is a nice arty picture; good reflections.

Nice winter scene, but its true no ‘wow’ factor and the branch lower dead center is a distraction….but hey what can u do….paddle up amd move it….mabey??

I think the branch adds interest. This shot reminds me of the purity of new snow and being in the serene tingly quiet.

I agree, the branch coming out of the water (and its reflection) makes the shot much more interesting.

Only the sound of your own breathing; what stillness, peace, and suspended time.

I disagree with the comment to remove the specs of leaves, it just reminds us that it’s not truely winter yet in this part of the nation. Let fall hang on. Great natural composition.

I love the reflection on the water. Yeah, the branch is in the way, but that’s life, when things are going smoothly, something always pops up to break the serenity.

Thanks to everyone for the comments.

I wanted to mention a couple of things about the image. First the branch in the middle of the reflections. Some like it, some don’t. Personally it was that branch that drew me to the scene. I feel that the contrast of the sharp branch with the soft reflections is what makes the scene. I have wider angle compositions where the branch is a much smaller element in the scene and I have closeups where the branch is the subject. Those shots are nice, but they just don’t have the same feel as this one does. This shot has all of the peaceful feelings that I was feeling at the time.

As for the leaves, I considered taking them out at first. But it is still Fall, even though it feels like winter, and many of the trees still have leaves hanging on. So to be true to the scene and the season I left them there.

Take care and happy holidays.

Marvelous winter image. The partially submerged branch and its reflection definitely add interest. Some people live to nitpick others’ work. Too bad. This is a beautiful image and when I first saw it, I said, “Wow”, so for me it has the Wow factor most definitely. Many congratulations, Steven!

Think the 2nd comment says it best. And yes, there is a ‘wow’ factor. It is in the quiet pause the scene invokes. A soft, calming, serene visual that when viewed, helps a soul relax. Takes a trained eye to recognize such an image, then capturing it as seen. Wow indeed.
