Flow through the Snow
by Stefano Sala
I shot this in the morning in Bedretto valley at 1500m. The image got some frozen softness from fresh snow and water flow.
Equipment: Canon EOS 40D - Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS

I am an amateur photographer living in south Switzerland. My photography passion is a gift from my father and, in the digital era, has become true love.
Now I am constantly in search of the unattainable image, and this encourages me to take more and more shots.

Brrr. This is a nice image–the soft fluffy snow is counter-balanced by the black lace trees and the glassy sheet of falling water. Switzerland and Michigan have a lot in common! Congrats on your potd.

Hmm….
You’ve got a nice looking waterfall but the foreground snow is definately overexposed and devoid of detail, hence very overpowering. You can try to burn it down a bit. Great scene otherwise. Congratulations

Lovely winter shot, congrats

Very nice shot indeed but I think you can help it liven up a little bit. The snow has too many dead empty pixels in the sense there seems to be no data, too white. Overall it is nice though.

Great shot Stefano. Well done.
If I had to find fault I would have liked to have seen the stream more central and it is slightly over exposed.

I have two versions of this image, a bright and less bright one, I uploaded there the bright one, because I found the snow too grey on my monitor.
Maybe I have to do a better calibration of my monitor, for a well balanced white response.
But I’ve checked the histogram and there was no white clipping.
Thank you for your suggestions

We are getting some nice winter scenes lately and this is no exception.

Lovely but definitely too narrow a view for me.

I have two different computers, one at home and one at work, and this looks just right on my work computer (with light grey detail throughout foreground white)– but I know if would be hot on my home computer. So I guess it depends in part on the system on which we view it. This looks like quite a hike with the thick snow, and I love the silvery look of the water.

Beautiful. Right out of a winter wonderland storybook.

Oh, how I LOVE the B&W photographs. The movement in the photograph is captured quite well. I really like it!
