Very minimalistic as the color of the sand reflects the color of the sky but as a composition it works very well.

Simple, serene beauty. Very peaceful.

Thanks, Katherine, for the good information.
Since both of Gerry's photos were taken in White Sands, it is the same "spot" but not the same "shot!"

For Mark--White Sands National Monument is in New Mexico, USA. To Alex--this yucca has fought the same and extreme heat to survive--its dead foliage may have been temporarily covered by sand and only recently re-exposed (You might prefer the 4-10-08 shot). For those who think this is a duplicate photo--not so. Yes, it's a classic shot, but the yucca is not the same plant, the view on 4-10-08 is from a different angle with two plants and different texture to foreground. Thousands of people might take photos in the same area, but no two are ever alike due to lighting, wind conditions, and even the height of the photographer. Nature is ever changing yet ever the same. I'm never bored with POTD--even the ones I don't particularly find appealing, as they offer new points-of-view to expand my artistic sensibilities!
