What an amazing photo–so full of messages! I can hear the soap opera opening, “As sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives”. I especially like the way the sunlight seems to fluoresce the falling sand as it falls then flows through the slot canyon carrying us away with it. Your photo is a beautiful reminder that in nature all things are recycled, even the rocks. I love it!
NICE! Like a waterfall! But of sand! Nature just does things you would never have imagined possible…
Really amazing. Is this a perpetual sandfall or does it happen only when the wind blows?
Thats a really great capture. I guess the lighting was difficult but you managed around it quite well. The saturation of the surroundings is great.
This is magnificent picture showing the divine nature of our creator. Praise God that such beauty still exists. Perhaps your photos will encourage man to preserve these gifts of GOD, for later generations.
This must have been a difficult picture to take but you got the lighting and the colors just right.
It is a very fascinating image, I feel the attention is yes captured by the falling sand - but in a second moment is caught by details of the background - the fine flight of caves in the with the light at the end, the singular beauty of rock streaks. I am in Italian so my language may be poor. Congratulations for the shot!
EXCELLENT
Ah cool. Is that a natural sandfall or did someone toss sand up there?
Great photo! To be prosaic, I also like the light at the end of the “tunnel”. Canyons are fascinating places.
Very amazing indeed! congrats
A fantastic shot.
The shadows to the left look like humans about to kiss.
It’s a wonderfull picture ! Could’nt think such a thing exist. The light is perfect and helps to give a surnatural sensation to this pic. Congratulations.
This photo is absolutely awesome! Thanks so much for sharing it. God bless you.
I am most curious too. I can’t imagine sand falls all the time, or even at predictable times, so how did you happend to catch this infrequent occurence?
Kirk,
It doesn’t actually fall at all, at least not by itself. This is something that the Navajo guides have been doing for their photographer customers for some time. It is very dark in the slots so the use of a tripod is almost mandatory for decent non-flash shots. Typically the guide sets you up in the right location and then grabs a big scoop of sand, throws it up on the rock shelf, and then runs out of the way so you can trip your shutter for a nice time exposure. It’s still a great shot but not a natural wonder. The slots though are a wonder unto themselves.
Thanks to all for your nice comments. This truly was an amazing place. A reminder just how much the Lord loves us to create such beauty for us to enjoy. Blessings, James and Kelly
Totally spellbinding! What an incredible and amazing place. Thank you for sharing.
