Lava Fields on Fire

by Orvaratli

Went out shooting last night. The weather wasn't really promising. Overcast, rainy and pretty dark. But then I drove out of the rain. Behind the rain the low laying sun was shining and its rays managed to shine through the rain causing the clouds and rainfall to lit up with this amazing red and yellow color. The lava field is just beside the road. Walking far in this kind of lava field is horribly difficult and slow. Lose lava rock underneath is full of holes covered by the thick soft moss. Mt. Helgafell in the background. Canon 30D, EF-S 10-22mm @ 12mm, 0,5 second exposure at F10 using ISO100. 3 stop hard egde GND filter on the sky.

A real eye-catcher, though perhaps a bit heavy on the foreground dodge.

Moss will certainly thrive anywhere!

So was it the sun that made it look like lava was coming out of the mountain or was the mountain erupting? If it wasn’t it is so cool how the sun makes it look that way!

Interesting and appreciate the hard work involved in taking this picture. This art piece show me how nature cover up what might have been a life killing event by announcing that life goes on and that it will thrive again.

Good title for a wonderful shot. I especially like the contrast in textures among cold hard lava, fresh green moss, and fiery misty sky.

Sacrifice for a great shot mate. Nice lighting and composition. I would have given some saturation to take out the vividness of the moss and the sun, but as it is its neat.
