Cave Beam

by Will Burrard-Lucas

This cave in Morocco is part of the largest cave network in North Africa. I got my girlfriend and the guide to stand in the beam of light. I used some moderate HDR to get a bit more detail in the shadows and the beam.
Equipment: Canon EOS 1D Mk III

Very neat! Specially, the scale!, One can’t appreciate the size of the cave until the people are pointed out, and they literally, HAVE to be pointed out. maybe you could ask them to wear bright red clothing, next time you get a chance to be there.
Great Shot!!

Great shot in such a difficult lighting. HDR is very comfortable for situations like this. Good ides to include the other members to compare the size.

Amazing contrast in size – the kids and the rocky cave.

Great shot – The sheer size of the cave compared to the people is amazing!

Great idea having people ‘spotlighted’ in the shot for comparative sizing. It makes all the difference to the viewer.

Very good example of being there at the right time
and having talent. Photography is a wonderful hobby and if one have the eye, love this art form and carry a small quality camera on a daily basis, one would be surprised how many golden shots comes one’s way. Bravo Will! Keep on travelling. Hunters! trade your shot guns for a camera and you shouldn’t be sorry you did.

Mysterious. Could be an illustration to a fairy tale. It certainly has this “something” that makes me want to look again and again.

Thanks for this terrific picture. The sheer size of the cave can only be appreciated by looking at the people in the beam of light. What a great idea to have them there. Congratulations!

Spectacular composition, lighting and subject! This is one of my favorite images that I’ve seen on Earth Shots yet!

This is a wonderful shot. The beam of sunlight may have been serendipitous, but your well thought out placement of the human element was perfect. This is a magnificent place, and I’d love to see more of it!
