Care for a Bite?
by Pam Wood
I saw this incredible bird from a distance and wished it would get closer. Then a miracle occured and it flew directly up to me and landed on a twig right in front of me with a big bug in its mouth. Subject: Andean Cock of the Rock.
Equipment: Canon 5D
Pam Wood
I love Photography. I am a photographer from Santa Cruz, CA. Nature, wildlife and sea life are my favorite images to capture. I use a Canon 5d and travel to many locations around the globe to get the “Perfect” shot.

Woooow!!! It’s the first time I see a shot of the Gallito that close!!!! where was it???? It is so beautiful !!!!! this looks like the perfect shot you are looking for…

  3. Woody Says:

Don’t you love it when you wish for something and it actually HAPPENS! That bird gave you the perfect opportunity for the shot and you nailed it! Congratulations from a fellow Santa Cruzan!

  4. Diana Says:

Stunning! The light, the obscurity and the color remind me of Rembrandt’s paintings. Your works are always surprising. I’m looking forward to seeing the next ones!

  5. Anurag Anurag Says:

Great moment! Good lighting, I guess some amount of post processing has gone into darkening the background. I suggest, you could have dodged the bird’s beak an the worm also a bit so that the eye is drawn to it. Right now one has to look just that little bit harder for the worm.
    Very good shot neverthless.

  6. Malta Photography Malta Photography Says:

wow what a great shot, as Anurag noted there is some PP on this image but its acceptable I guess. The image speaks for itself.

  7. Keith Says:

Nice one. Post processing – well that’s what we do with digital, and what Photoshop is for isn’t it! It does not detract from being an interesting, viewable shot though, and only purist film buffs might scoff – to their subsequent loss of course…lol. Well done.

  8. Michael Ray Michael Ray Says:

I think it was was a great shot period. I can see the bug just fine. The eye really catches mine. It is clear, sharp great job.

This is brilliant; it is highly unusual to get wild birds to come this close.

  12. CHUNKY Says:

well pam the color and clarity are awsome in this shot . this is how i pictured a bird catching a worm to look like in my own mind . This would be an excelent shot for a bird facts book . It could be the photo used to show how this kind of bird looks . nice job p.s poor worm :-(

  14. planet lover Says:

What a delightgul find!! The Andean Cock-of-the-Rock is Peru’s national bird. Check out this website http://www.go2peru.com/peru_birds_30.htm to see why the rest of the bird on the picture is so dark. Another South American beauty!
