Rice Raining

Farmers harvesting rice in Godean, Yogyakarta (30/05/2008). Starting dry season in June 2008, Indonesian needs almost 2,5-3 billions tons of rice. The rice price in the global market slowly rise up into $ 500/ton. Although it seems rise up every weeks, Indonesian goverment led the policy to release it on $ 400/tons. Some big flood in US, Africa and Asia were destroyed famrland and made made seriously food crisis in the world.

Danu Primanto
Primanto, 28, comes from a worker family in East Java, Indonesia and studied architecture at the Atma Jaya Yogyakarta University. He is a freelance photojournalist and award-winning documentary filmmaker, drawing his inspiration from the relationship between social and visual issues. He is currently working with several NGOs in Java to document the region’s rebuilding in the wake of 2006’s devastating earthquake.

    I like this photo for different reasons. But number one is that as a farm worker myself, I see it as very universal. We all need to farm and we all need to eat. Good show. EZ
