Ice Cave Squeeze

by Kevin McNeal

This was taken from an workshop with Marc Adamus and we went exploring for different things. This is one small ice cave that actually was only a few feet tall and I had to crawl in on my hands and knees in water to fit in here but it was fun. It took me almost half an hour laying in glacier water but the exposure was very difficult.
Equipment: Canon 5D 17-40L

First of all – WOW! really unique, must have been real tough shooting in those conditions.
BUT, I cant help wondering about the red stone in the center. Its doing such a fine jub of interacting with the cyan ice! Was it just there or did you pick it up from somewhere around and put it there? (no problems with that BTW) Or did you colorise it PP. Just a curiosity. After all serendipity is a photographer’s best friend :-)

Jeez what a shot, the colors, the exposure and the lighting is so very well balanced. Yes the red stone does grab most of the attention.

Interesting shot with vivid colours.
May I ask a question? It looks for me more like a remaining part of an avalanche rather than a glacier is that correct? Never seen grass growing under a glacier.
Anyway the water is damn cold. Would not love to stay there and play half an hour with exposure…

Very interesting and unusual location.
A slightly wider angle view would probably be nice too and might give a better feel for the whole location.

wow!!!!!

ALways fascinating to me to se ice from the opposite angle that we usually see it. Unique–this gets an A+! AWESOME effort to get this, Kevin, BRavo.
(And to think some folks think we just “snap a few shots” to get great images!) LOL.

Beautiful and composition with such soft colors. The water effect with the slow shutter speed makes the softness of the colors work even better.

Not that it matters but where is this place? Alaska? What protective clothing were you wearing to be able to lie in icy water for so long? It would be nice to know…

I’m amazed at the greenery inside a glacier.
Fantastic shot! Obviously, you take your work very seriously!

Ranks right up there with the stars and gator shot, or the inside the spring shot as my faves in the last months. I love this.

Very unique image Kevin. Great work!! I too have a weekend session booked with Marc. I have seen your website, and you have a great portfolio of images. You went prospecting underground and came back with gold!

A very unusual subject; it must have been very difficult to get the right depth of field, well done.
