Powders and Paints
by David Lazar
In India, The festival ‘Holi’ celebrates the arrival of Spring - with vibrantly colored powers and paints liberally thrown onto anyway who happens to be outside on this day. I had a little appartment which overlooked the alleyways of the Jaisalmer Fort - so I took this photo from a safe vantage point.
Equipment: Canon Powershot A80

I’m a photographer from Brisbane, Australia - and one of the joys for me (outside my musical profession) is travelling and capturing moments of life and beauty through photography.
My favourite styles of photography: Portraiture and landscape. Also, in general, I prefer shots which contain an element of ‘cannot be captured exactly again’; that is expressive people shots, action shots and any scenario with a unique aspect to it.

    Good vantage point and composition. As you say, this kind of shot needs to be done at a safe distance. Most photography is a momentary passing of time and you have captured this one superbly.

    Those being Powder covered people don’t see to be enjoying it! I could think of more fun ways to welcome Spring.

    You managed a good composition despite the paucity of time.

    @Marie
    Holi is great fun and everybody enjoys to their fullest. It is said that on this day one forgets hatred and embraces even one’s enemy.
    One can see people dancing with joy, in the shot above. One of them even has a bottle of ?coke in his hands. If one looks closely we can make out a few smiling faces too. Holi is all about fun happiness and freaking out.

  13. Marie Dunphy Harding Says:

    Thanks Anurag for clarifying the essence of Holi.
    my first impression was one of escape,not enjoyment.
