Living On The Edge
by David Lazar
North Philippines is not very well set up for tourists - which gives these special places a quiet and certain ‘undiscovered’ feel. A bone jarring jeepney ride from Bontoc to Sagada will go past this view of a village perched precariously on the edge of a mountain, right next to the rice fields built like giant stairs leading to the sky.
Equipment: Nikon D70s, Tamron 18-200mm

I’m a photographer from Brisbane, Australia - and one of the joys for me (outside my musical profession) is travelling and capturing moments of life and beauty through photography.
My favourite styles of photography: Portraiture and landscape. Also, in general, I prefer shots which contain an element of ‘cannot be captured exactly again’; that is expressive people shots, action shots and any scenario with a unique aspect to it.

I win! :) Nice picture, with that slanting light and those soft shades of green. I’d like to have seen more of the mountaintops, “the sky” you mention in the description.. What focal length did you have on the Tamron? -This pic reminds me so much of the typical stepped terraces of the Himalaya in Nepal and India.

They are like giant stairs - beautifully captured and composed!

  3. Lakshmi Lakshmi Says:

Great light and very nicely composed too.

  4. Anurag Says:

Sunlight filtering through the clouds looks great. The red building with the smoke rising from the nearby fire is also a great point of interest. An unusual focal length for landscapes but which is giving a nice feel to the shot, kind of a “Peeping into” type of feel.

lovely landscape!!…… love the framing of it……. a lot of the interest is created by this composition……. really well done!!

What a magical looking place … makes some of the rice terraces of Bali and other spots in Asia pale in comparison..

I’m always amazed at how many different shades of green there are. Your photo captures them perfectly, and the light and shadow playing across the scene really intensifies the depth. Fantastic.

    Very pretty. Order and randomness.

Rice fields need to be flooded right? How do they flood those?
