Salamander’s Forest
by Scott Hotaling
I found this Blue Ridge Spring salamander (Gyrinophilus porphyriticus danielsi) trying to warm up on a fallen pine deep in the Smoky Mountains on a recent trip. After observing for a few minutes, I shot this photograph as it started to move around a bit.
Equipment: Canon 5D + Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens

Like the shot. A little be disconcerting with so much being out of focus but when you see its face with all the colour it brings it all together.

hey what a close up very nice shot. and very contrastive. I like the blurred parts how they contrast with the salamander.

I don’t think I ever studied a salamander such as this, so closely, I simply love it! Great view!

Lovely little creature but there’s a bit too much blur for me.
