Which Lens are you using?

You have the lighting just right; well done

I am sorry but I cannot agree with you guys. There is too much light in my opinion even though the zebra has a nice effect on it. The sun was exactly opposite the lens and flaring is very evident. However i am sure this is a one time shot and like the natural side of it.

Very stunning shot! Like it alot!

the light in this picture makes it feel like the dawn of creation.

I really like the way the light makes the zebra and orange color. Nice shot!

Looks like flare and loss of contrast.
Katherine Lee Strassburg
Those of you who criticized the flare effect are missing the point. This photo presents the emotion and feeling to the viewer–not just another calendar photo of a zebra. I think it’s perfect! I may never get to Africa, but pictures like this help me feel the sun on my face, hear the insects, birds, and animals, and even smell the air heavy with animal musk. Thank you, Will!

cool photo, but I have to disagree with most and say that the lighting takes away with the photo. i want to see the bright white and contrasting black of the young zebra and the orange glow takes away. still a cool shot tho.

Yes!!! Always a good time of day to take a picture.
What a mood setting.

I agree re. the flare. It’s not about too much light; it’s about the moment. It might not stand up to the usual standards of perfection, but if I were in Africa and had an opportunity like this wander past, I would have pressed my shutter without much thought to any of the technical aspects.
This image made me think of Creation.

So cute! Very moving.

I think the comparison to a moment of Creation is spot on. The backlit glow as well as the haze creates an almost mystical appearance to the zebra as he moves through the frame. It has an ethereal quality and an artistic sensibility which sets it quite apart from what one usually expects. Lovely work Will!!

I fed a zebra. They are very friendly animals.

I ahve spent a long time in Africa, I think regardless of poeples ideas about lighting what your photo achieves is great as it captures a moment of an African morning, well done
