Shattered Glass
by Shawn Thompson
The sun was setting as I was on my way home from work. I quickly stopped at home, grabbed my photo gear and headed to the St. Louis River.
I made just as the sun had set. I noticed the colors in the sky and how the purple and orange clouds above me were reflecting color onto the foreground ice and water.
I shot at 18mm and vertical to give a wide vertical perspective and to put emphasis on the foreground Ice shards that resembled broken glass.
I hope you enjoy this image. I certainly enjoyed capturing it.

Growing up in Northern Minnesota I have always had a love for the outdoors. I love all types of photography, but living so close to Lake Superior has really sparked my interest in landscape photography.

An interesting shot. It looks quite abstract. I like the close angle and the backdrop overall.

    Interesting looking Ice!

  6. Stephen Says:

The colorful pieces of ice make me wonder if parts of the sky have broken off and landed in the river. So….there is rain, snow and shards of sky.

  7. Renee Renee Says:

  8. Kirk Jordan Says:

I am curious about how this ice formed. Was it on the water surface then knocked in by waves, or was it on top of flat rocks (?) just before the water’s edge, and then knocked in. Either way it is a most puzzling phenomenon, and an excellent observation.

Thanks Everyone i appreciate the comments.

What happens is, Ice begins to break up and gets pushed into piles along the shoreline.
